  • "Neighbor keeps mowing my lawn without asking and now wants payment"

My neighbor Greg (maybe 50sM?) is retired and really into lawn care. His yard is perfect, mine is...
  • fine. I mow it when it needs it but im not obsessive about it. About a month ago I came home and noticed my lawn was freshly mowed.
  • figured maybe my landlord sent someone but then I saw Greg putting his mower away.
  • I thanked him and he said no problem. Then he did it again. And again. Every week for a month hes been mowing my lawn without asking.
  • I thought he was just being nice so I bought him a gift card to say thanks.
  • He seemed happy. Yesterday he came to my door with an invoice. An actual printed invoice for "lawn services rendered" charging me $40 per mow for 4 mows - $160 total.
  • man handing envelope to someone
  • I was shocked and said I never asked him to mow my lawn. He said he did it because my lawn was "lowering the neighborhood standards" and since he did the work I need to pay him.
  • I refused and he got mad saying he wouldnt have done it for free and that I accepted his services by not stopping him.
  • I told him I didnt ask for services and im not paying. Now hes telling other neighbors that I took advantage of him and refuses to mow my lawn anymore (good??).
  • Some neighbors think I should pay him something but I feel like thats insane.
  • shers719 I wouldn't pay him either. If someone thinks you should, tell them they can pay him then.
  • VerdMont1 Send him a no trespass order!
  • egg_static5 Absolutely not, do not pay him for his controlling behavior.
  • brideofgibbs Ooh, that's favour-sharking! I did you a favour that you didn't ask for, against your will, and now I'm calling in some kind of repayment to which you never consented
  • fromthelandofdjel You should charge him for removing your grass without your permission.
  • RCoaster42 A contract requires, among other things, mutual agreement between the parties. This did not occur here and no payment is required.
  • Ranch_42 This is extortion call the police
  • Key_Cow5619 1. Send him a bill for damaging your property. 2. Send him a notice of trespass to keep him off your property in the future. 3. Tell him to k himself. (not necessarily in that order)
